The Product

Surgical Skin Stapler Handle

Product History

In the past, the handle had been molded from Dow's White Polycarbonate on a Cincinnati Milacron Injection Molding Press.

The Challenge

Reduce the cost of a skin stapler handle without affecting the mechanical properties or functionality of the product.

The UPG Solution

Mold handle on a 150-ton Engel Injection Molding Press specially equipped for UPG Microcellular molding.

The Results
  • Reduced Cycle Time
  • Elimination of Sink Marks
  • Less Scrap

After just four hours of testing, the cycle time was reduced by 37% with a melt temperature of 550°F, Injection Pressure of 10,000 psi, and a mold temperature of 160°F.

The Bottom Line Benefits

By dramatically reducing cycle time and enhancing the quality of each molded part, UPG and its customer/partner, have been able to significantly reduce the cost of manufacturing molded skin stapler handles.
